Citizen Sector was set up to build and support projects that are powered by people and good for society.

So when the pandemic hit, Citizen Sector bought together a team - in conjunction with tech partner Tectonica - who have built and launched a free to use, website and app called “WeGotYou”, already available globally in both the Apple and the Google Play Store, that supports people giving and getting help, to and from their local community in order to stay at home safely during the COVID-19 crisis.

The scale of the community response required to deal with COVID-19 is unprecedented. Until a vaccine is found, there are going to be prolonged periods where many of the adult population will need to self-isolate. It’s unrealistic to expect traditional volunteering structures and statutory agencies to achieve the scale needed, only scalable neighbour-to-neighbour interactions through a digital platform stand a chance of success.

And we are here to help!

The team

The team brings together skills and understanding of community organising and digital tools with extensive cross-sectoral experience that lends itself to exciting and innovative projects. We have worked together on successive projects and are dynamic, thoughtful and driven to help address some of the challenges created by this pandemic.

Innovate UK Grant Awarded

Citizen Sector are thrilled to announce the award of a Innovate UK Grant to develop their "WeGotYou" app and website that lets people give and get help from their local community in order to stay at home safely during the COVID-19 crisis. Dubbed “the uber for helping people,” WeGotYou aims to provide vital infrastructure to support organised volunteer groups and individuals continue to help those self-isolated or sheltering as more and more volunteers head back to work with less time to assist those in quarantine.

This timely award will allow the team to put the beta version through its paces, including field-testing, iterative development, debugging and strategic partnerships to extend the reach across more communities and areas both in the UK and around the world.

WeGotYou is a diverse team working across the globe to deliver an internationally available app, which promises to be a valuable tool in the near future with likely intermittent lockdowns that could last for years to come in our “new normal”.
